It is worth noting that UOB Plaza 1 KL is Malaysia’s first bank headquarters to receive platinum certification from GreenRE Malaysia — the highest level in the nation’s green building rating system — as well as BCA Greenmark in neighbouring Singapore. Across Malaysia, there are only 44 buildings with similar platinum GreenRE certification, followed by Gold (109 buildings), silver (89 buildings) and bronze (192 buildings), according to GreenRE’s official website- updated January 2024.
UOB Plaza is a prominent corporate office tower that showcases sustainable design, workplace excellence, and occupant well-being. As UOB’s headquarters in Malaysia, the development integrates biophilic design through vertical greenery, landscaped sky gardens, and outdoor communal spaces that strengthen the connection between occupants and nature.
The building incorporates a comprehensive range of sustainability features, including a high-efficiency chiller plant, regenerative lifts, energy-efficient lighting, water-efficient fittings, rainwater harvesting, and a high-performance façade with triple low-E glazing. Indoor environmental quality was also prioritized through the use of high-efficiency MERV 13 air filtration systems, which help maintain superior indoor air quality and create a healthier, more comfortable workplace for occupants.
Environmentally responsible construction practices were adopted through the use of green concrete, eco-labelled materials, and low-emission building products, reducing the project’s overall environmental impact.
Achieving approximately 32% energy savings and reducing carbon emissions by over 3 million kgCO₂e annually, UOB Plaza 1 KL stands as a leading example of sustainable commercial development in Malaysia, demonstrating how energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, and occupant well-being can be successfully integrated within a modern workplace.
